ACUPUNCTURE NOW GOES ELECTRONIC

It may sound too good to be true but there is now a small hand held medical device available in Ireland that can accurately detect both known and unknown health issues. Even more extraordinary is the fact that the device may also be used to relieve pain experienced by people suffering from a wide range of different conditions. This includes back pain, shoulder and neck pain, headaches, period pain, muscular aches, fibromyalgia, arthritis, rheumatism, sinusitis and many more debilitating ailments.

This innovative product, the Aculife Magnetic Wave Therapist, was featured on Nationwide on RTE last summer and is now being used by in excess of 1,000 people in Ireland and by more than a million people worldwide.

With its origins rooted in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), it allows users to quickly and simply detect energy imbalances in the body and to address these imbalances by electronically stimulating Acupoints on the left hand and generating magnetic waves that pass harmlessly through the body. A detailed hand map comes with the product which allows a user to easily identify health problems based on the part of the hand that generates a sensation when running a small pen like device over it.

Although increasingly being used by physiotherapists, reflexologists and other therapists, Aculife was in fact developed to allow ordinary individuals to benefit from Acupuncture on a daily basis in their own home, without having to venture out or to endure the discomfort of sticking needles in their bodies.

When set in Detect Mode, Aculife sends out a short wave electro-magnetic pulse through the Acupoints on the left hand. An individual’s state-of-Chi, or balance, creates feedback in the form of a tingling or stinging sensation on the hand wherever an imbalance is detected. These are the points requiring treatment in order to rebalance the energy flow in the body and consequently relieve pain.

When set to Relieve Mode, Aculife transmits a pulse along the same wavelength but at a different power level. This stimulates the brain into producing endorphins, which act as a stimulant and provide relief from pain. It encourages the natural production of blood cells by the body - red ones to carry oxygen and nutrients, white ones to reduce inflammation and strengthen the general immune system. Aculife also helps to speed up blood circulation and this improvement in circulation helps the body to heal itself both naturally and effectively.

Neville Coen is a chartered physiotherapist working in Aut Even Hospital in Kilkenny and has been using Aculife for more than 18 months in clinical practice and has the following to say about it

“As a chartered physiotherapist, I have worked in general practice as well as with various sports clubs such as Bray Wanderers and the Wicklow Senior Football team. In our profession we use manual handling skills along with various machines most notably ultra sound and interferential. I have been using the Aculife Magnetic Wave Therapist for 18 months in the physiotherapy and sport injury clinics where I have been based as well as in the Aut Even hospital in Kilkenny. This has been on a trial basis with patients consenting to use”.

“I have used it outside the parameters of normal treatment techniques and I have found the device to be beneficial on both a diagnostic and a pain relieving level. Patients have found it easy to use and are extremely pleased by the results. I use it regularly to treat patients for sports injuries and a range of painful medical conditions such as fibromyalgia, muscle strains, rheumatism, and arthritis. Although it has not yet become a mainstream treatment, I take comfort from the fact that it is certified in the EU as a Class IIa medical device and many of my patients report a high success rate in using Aculife at home to manage their pain in combination with normal physiotherapy techniques in the clinic. I often recommend it to patients and to colleagues as an effective self-help pain management treatment”.

Case Study 1, Deirdre Smyth, Aged 39

Presenting complaint:

None

Previous Treatment:

None

Use of Aculife: Deirdre Smyth was not an active user of the Aculife Magnetic Wave Therapist. Her husband bought one for the house and specifically for treating his chronic back pain. When sitting watching TV with her children one evening, Deirdre’s 12 year old daughter tried the Aculife device on her mother’s hand in “detect” mode. Although somewhat sceptical about the claims made about Aculife, Deirdre experienced a very sharp sensation in the wrist area, which corresponds with the gynaecological points. She was totally unaware of any gynaecological problems but eventually decided to go to her gynaecologist to have it checked out. She was shocked to discover that she had two large growths in her womb.

Outcome: Thankfully Deirdre was fine after surgical removal of the pre-cancerous growths under a general anaesthetic. “I shudder to think what might have happened if I had not discovered the problem in time and without Aculife I might have remained unaware until the growths became cancerous”, she says.

Case Study 2, John Brennan, aged 45

Presenting Complaint:

Regular and severe Migraine

Previous Treatment:

Usually a full packet of migraleve each month

Use of Aculife:

John Brennan, gets regular bouts of severe Migraine. One such incident of migraine occurred as he prepared to host a dinner party one evening. He says “I felt the onset of Migraine just as we were expecting guests for dinner and I spent about 50 minutes using Aculife before they arrived. There are 13 points on the hand that can be stimulated to combat oncoming Migraine symptoms and I gradually worked my way through these points”.

Outcome:

“I would normally be forced to go to bed for the evening when a Migraine starts due to nausea and disorientation but I was able to entertain our guests for the evening with only minor symptoms compared to the norm” he reports. “I now use Aculife when I get the early warning signs of an oncoming Migraine attack”.

Aculife has given a free device to the Migraine Association of Ireland for trial and use by its members.

Case Study 3, Jim Long

Presenting Complaint:

Jim has been a keen golfer for many years but had to stop playing last year due to back and hip pain.

Previous Treatment:

Mostly painkillers and a small amount of physiotherapy

Use of Aculife:

Jim used Aculife for 30 minutes per day for about a week when he got it first. He now uses Aculife several times per week, especially before playing golf.

Outcome:

Jim is now back playing 18 holes of golf twice or three times a week. He claims that the relief is astonishing and that Aculife has given him a new lease of life.

Case Study 4, Mary Burke, Aged 59

Presenting Complaint:

Mary has ongoing pain in her chest due to a mastectomy she had 30 years ago. She believes that this was due to the way her rib cage had been bound up during the operation.

Previous Treatment:

Traditional treatments used by Mary include reflexology, pain killers and physiotherapy but with limited success.

Use of Aculife:

Mary used the Aculife for 90mins per day initially and this gave her significant relief. She continued to use the device over the next couple of months every other day and now is completely free from pain after 30 years of suffering.

Outcome:

“I am amazed at the results since no other form of treatment has been able to take the pain away so completely”, she says.
