What Is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis, also referred to as hypnotherapy or hypnotic suggestion, is a trance-like state in which you have heightened focus and concentration. Hypnosis is usually done with the help of a therapist using verbal repetition and mental images. When you're under hypnosis, you usually feel calm and relaxed, and are more open to suggestions.

Hypnotherapy is used to bring about beneficial change. During a hypnotherapy session your conscious mind is temporarily bypassed and the therapist works directly with the unconscious mind, where your memories, emotions and imagination are stored. In most cases you remain fully aware of your surroundings during treatment.

The hypnotic state allows a person to be more open to discussion and suggestion. It can improve the success of other treatments for many conditions.
